Army Parachute Team Cancels Air Show Appearance After Death of Team Member

September 05, 2018

EMANUEL COUNTY, GA. – August 30, 2018 (bizjournals.com) The U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute team has canceled an appearance at an air show after losing one of its team members in a recent plane crash, according to an online article from bizjournals.com.*

The crash occurred in the afternoon of August 25. Five people were on board a Cessna 182A that had just taken off for a skydiving lesson. The plane, owned by Statesboro, Georgia, skydiving company Jump Place, crashed at the East Georgia Regional Airport and burst into flames. Four people died in the crash, including 31-year-old Aliaksandr Bahrytsevich, of Raeford, North Carolina. Bahrytsevich, a native of Belarus, was a member of the U.S. Army Parachute team.

The Frontiers in Flight open house and air show is scheduled to take place September 8 and September 9 at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kansas. McConnell Air Force Base said in a statement that it will take the time to honor fallen service members from all branches of the military during its open house.

“While we are disappointed [the Golden Knights] will not be here for our show, we understand their need to be with Alex and his family at this time,” Maj. Ryan Frost, Frontiers in Flight air operations director, said in a press release. “When something like this happens in life, we have to take a pause.”

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the plane crash, the cause of which is not yet known. One person survived the crash, and he is reported to be in stable condition at a local hospital.
