September 05, 2018

SOUTH HADLEY, MA. – August 30, 2018 (macon.com) Authorities in South Hadley, Massachusetts, have identified the pedestrian struck and killed by a vehicle August 29, according to an online news report from macon.com.*

The accident occurred in the morning hours of August 29. The Northwestern District Attorney’s Office says 88-year-old Michihiro Yoshida, of South Hadley, was walking near the area of College Street and Church Street by Mount Holyoke College. He was struck by a vehicle and taken to a nearby hospital, where he later tragically died of his injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, who has not been identified, reportedly stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. No charges have been filed at this time, and authorities say they are still investigating the incident.

In Georgia, people can used the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety as a safety resource. The Office provides safety tips for pedestrians on its website. Pedestrians can stay safe on Georgia roads, sidewalks, and walkways by following the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety’s advice. Tips include always walking on sidewalks (if possible), crossing at crosswalks (if available), walking against oncoming traffic, wearing brightly colored clothing (especially at night), obeying all traffic signals, and watching out for turning traffic.

The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety also recommends that pedestrians try to make eye contact with oncoming drivers to make sure the drivers see and are aware you’re trying to cross the street. The office advises to stop before crossing the street and look left, right, then left again before crossing any street. Children should also never be allowed to play in the street, the office says.
