Man Dies After Scooter Struck by Car on Georgia Highway 1 in Decatur, Georgia

DECATUR COUNTY, GA. – August 31, 2018 ( A man sadly died August 31 after his scooter was struck by an automobile on Georgia Highway 1 in Decatur County. The details of the accident are reported online at*

The collision reportedly occurred in the late evening hours of August 31 on Ga. 1. Georgia State Patrol indicates Korie Seagull (age and city not reported) was riding a scooter northbound on the highway and was struck from behind by an automobile. Seagull was fully ejected from the scooter, and the scooter ignited in flames. Seagull tragically died at the scene.

It does not appear the driver of the car, James Clee (age and city not reported), was injured in the accident. Troopers investigated the incident for any indications that Clee was impaired or distracted prior to the collision. They searched his cell phone and took a blood test (which Clee voluntarily agreed to) and did not find any evidence of driving under the influence or distracted driving. 

Georgia State Patrol is continuing to investigate the accident and has not released additional information at this time. An obituary says Korie Seagull was born August 7, 1964. Services were held September 1 at Nelson Chapel A.M.E. Church in Bainbridge, Georgia. 

Decatur County is located on the southwestern border of the state of Georgia. It has an estimated populated of 27,000, and its major roadways include U.S. Route 27 and U.S. Route 84. Aside from 2016, vehicle accident numbers in Decatur County have remained relatively steady, according to data from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. 

From 2012 to 2015, an average of 575 accidents occurred annually in Decatur County. In 2016, however, accident totals jumped to 682. The vehicle accidents in 2016 led to almost 200 injuries and 12 fatalities.
