Georgia Authorities Continue Search for Driver Involved in Fatal Hit-and-Run

September 08, 2018

AMERICUS, GA. – September 4, 2018 (wrbl.com) After a week of searching, authorities in Americus, Georgia, are still on the hunt for the driver involved in a deadly hit-and-run crash on August 27. The story is reported online by wrbl.com.*

The crash occurred at approximately 7 p.m. on August 27 at the intersection of U.S. Highway 280 and Felder Street in Americus. Georgia State Patrol says three cars were involved, including a Honda CR-V, an Oldsmobile Intrigue, and a van. It is not clear how the accident occurred. The driver of the van reportedly caused the wreck and fled the scene before authorities arrived. Anthony Lowe, 59, of Americus, died as a result of the crash.

The search for the missing driver is ongoing, according to Georgia State Patrol. No description of the vehicle has been provided, but authorities say the driver was borrowing the van and abandoned the vehicle then fled on foot. Anyone with potential information about the driver and his or her whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Americus division of the Georgia State Patrol by calling (229) 931-2397.

An obituary says Anthony Levonne Lowe, Sr., was known to his friends and family as “Bull.” He was educated in the public school system of Sumter County and attended Union High School in Leslie, Georgia. He is survived by his mother, Azie Lowe; children Clarissa Lowe, of Americus, and Anthony Lowe, Jr., of Atlanta; a grandson, Avery Ross; siblings and many extended family members. Services were held Labor Day at the Friendship Baptist Church in Americus.
