FL Uber Driver Shoots, Kills Man; Sheriff Calls it ‘Classic Stand Your Ground Case’
POLK COUNTY, FL. – August 29, 2018 (wesh.com) According to an online news story from wesh.com, an Uber driver shot and killed a man after he had been threatened on a roadway in Polk County, Florida.*
At approximately 2:20 a.m. on August 28, 34-year-old Jason Boek had been texting with his girlfriend who was at a bar in Polk County. The two were arguing via text for some time that evening. Boek was sitting outside the bar and watched a woman he believed was his girlfriend get into an Uber car.
Boek then pursued the Uber driver on Dundee Road, east of Carl Floyd Road on County Road 550. He first pulled up right behind the Uber, then passed the Uber and forced it to come to a stop on the two-lane roadway. Boek then exited his truck and walked toward the Uber driver, yelling that he had a pistol and was going to shoot the driver.
The Uber driver, who has not been identified, was a concealed carry license holder and had just completed training in the police academy, according to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd. The driver fired one shot into Boek’s chest and called 911 before administering CPR on Boek. Boek died at the scene.
