Georgia Tech Linebacker Injured in Scooter Accident

September 03, 2018

ATLANTA, GA. – August 28, 2018 ( A linebacker from Georgia Tech was involved in scooter accident, according to an online article from*

At a press conference on August 28, Georgia Tech Football Coach Paul Johnson said the availability of linebacker Bruce Jordan-Swilling for the team’s season opener is unknown after he was injured in a recent scooter accident. The team is scheduled to face off against Alcorn State on September 1, and Johnson told a room of reporters, “Bruce Swilling, I don’t think he’ll play.”

Johnson seemed to think this type of accident was somewhat inevitable. “The [scooters] that you ride with no helmet that you fly down the road, it’s just kind of waiting for it to happen,” he said.

Details of the accident and Jordan-Swilling’s injuries were not reported, but the linebacker’s teammates downplayed the situation, having a few laughs at his expense. “I mean, it’s bad,” said quarterback TaQuon Marshall. “The other day in the training room, I could not stop laughing. It was like five of us just laughing. I couldn’t stop, it was so funny. I’m like, ‘Dude, how did this happen?’ But it happens. I hope he gets better really soon.”

In addition to Jordan-Swilling, cornerback Lamont Simmons will also not play in Saturday’s game against Alcorn. Johnson said Simmons had a hamstring injury and needed more time to heal. “[H]e just didn’t feel right,” Johnson said of Simmons at the team’s practice on August 23. “So in my mind, sometimes that can nag all year, let’s shut him down and let him get better, and then when he gets back, we’ll evaluate him and see where it is.”
