Authorities Investigating Fiery Crash on I-75 in Houston County, GA

WARNER ROBINS, GA. – August 28, 2018 ( According to an online news story from, authorities in Houston County, Georgia, are investigating an Interstate 75 vehicle crash that resulted in a fire on August 27.*

The crash occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. on August 27, near mile marker 127 on I-75 North in Houston County. The accident reportedly involved a semi-truck that caught on fire after impact. It is not clear how the accident occurred or how many vehicles were involved. Injuries were not reported. 

The wreck blocked all lanes of northbound traffic on I-75 until about 3 a.m. on August 28. Georgia State Patrol is investigating the accident and has not released additional information at this time. 

Houston County is located in the south-central portion of the state of Georgia and has an estimated population of approximately 152,000. The county seat is Perry, though Warner Robins is significantly larger in both area and population. Its major roadways include Interstate 75, U.S. Route 41, U.S. Route 129, and U.S. Route 341. 

The Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway safety gathered data on vehicle accidents in Houston County between the years 2012 and 2016. Though the county saw a decrease in accidents in 2013 and 2014, overall numbers of vehicle accidents in Houston County have increased since 2012. In 2012, a total of 3,044 vehicle accidents occurred in the county, leading to 892 injuries and 15 deaths. These numbers decreased the following two years — 2,337 accidents in 2012 with 684 injuries and nine deaths, and 1,402 accidents in 2014 with 400 injuries and eight deaths.

However, in 2015, accidents in Houston County saw a major jump, increasing to 4,111 overall accidents, which led to 1,115 injuries and 11 deaths. These numbers rose again in 2016, bringing the total accidents to 4,316, resulting in 1,223 injuries and 17 deaths.
