Father of Teenager Killed in Car Wreck Publishes Book on Teen Driving Safety

September 03, 2018

ATLANTA, GA. – August 29, 2018 ( A father who lost his teenage son in a car accident has published a book for families about teen driving safety. The story is reported online by*

Nearly 12 years ago, Tim Hollister, of Connecticut, lost his adopted son, Reid, in a car accident. Reid was just 17 years old at the time of his death. “To his friends, he was always the life of the party, happy-go-lucky, a very handsome young man,” Tim said of his son. In his grief, Tim started a blog to educate parents and teens about driving safety. He has now turned those tips into a published book.

Working with other national safety advocates, Tim wrote his second edition book “Not So Fast,” designed to help parents whose children are starting to drive. He said the No. 1 rule he wants parents to understand when they hand over the keys is “be a parent.”

“I advocate as a mindset for parents to be like an air traffic controller,” Tim said. “Not a friend, but someone in charge of the situation.”

In “Not So Fast,” Tim outlines what he says are the five biggest dangers for teen drivers: (1) passengers; (2) alcohol and drugs; (3) curfews or driving at night; (4) texting and electronic devices; and (5) seat belts. Families can remember these dangers by the acronym “P.A.C.T.S.”

“This is not a one-time conversation when they get their license,” Tim said. “It’s a daily conversation because you’re checking the safety tips every single time your teen gets behind the wheel.”
