BALL GROUND, GA. – August 29, 2018 (patch.com) A man has been charged in connection with a March 28 vehicle accident in Ball Ground, Georgia, that tragically killed a pregnant woman, according to a news report by patch.com.*

At approximately 6:18 a.m. on March 28, Joseph Branden Handel, 55, of Jasper, Georgia, was driving his Toyota pickup southbound on Ball Ground Highway (Ga. 372) not far outside the Nelson city limits. He attempted to turn left onto Jordan Road from Ball Ground Highway and struck a Chevrolet Tahoe that was traveling northbound on Ball Ground Highway.

Following the impact, the Tahoe flipped over and landed on its roof. Three people were inside the Tahoe, including driver Dylan Robertson, 20, of Ball Ground, passenger Kirsten Robertson, 21, of Ball Ground, and a female juvenile. All three occupants of the Tahoe were taken to a nearby hospital. Dylan Robertson sustained minor injuries, and the juvenile reportedly was not injured in the crash.

Kirsten Robertson sadly perished from her injuries. Reports later indicated Robertson was 19 weeks pregnant at the time of her death. She was a daycare teacher, instructing 1-year-old children at the Jasper-based Harmony Academy Learning Center. Her unborn child was to be named Chloe Angel Robertson.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Unit conducted an investigation following the crash. The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office says Handel has now been charged with vehicular homicide in the second degree, feticide by vehicle in the second degree and failure to yield to vehicle entering roadway. He was arrested August 28 at his home in Pickens County, Georgia, and booked into the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center. He is currently being held on a $4,220 bond.
