Four-Car Crash in Conyers, GA, Disrupts Power for Eight Hours

CONYERS, GA. – August 30, 2018 ( According to an online news story from, a four-vehicle crash August 29 in Conyers, Georgia, disrupted power in the area for about eight hours.*

The crash occurred at approximately noon on August 29 on Ga. 138, near the Chick-fil-A restaurant in Conyers. Sgt. Kim Lucas, a spokesperson for the Conyers Police Department, said the collision occurred when an SUV turned in front of a tractor-trailer. The driver of the tractor-trailer swerved to try to avoid an impact, then crashed into two other vehicles and a utility pole in the Chick-fil-A parking lot.

No one was seriously injured in the crash, but the collision downed live power lines and halted electric service for the traffic lights on the road and for several businesses, including Chick-fil-A and Intown Suites. None of the people involved in the crash has been identified. Two people complained of minor injuries, but it is not clear whether they required any treatment. 

It is not clear what caused the SUV to turn into the path of the tractor-trailer. The Conyers Police Department is investigating the crash and has not yet released additional information. Officials have not indicated whether anyone will be cited or charged. 

Conyers is located in Rockdale County, Georgia. According to the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, Rockdale County has seen a rise in the number of vehicle accidents that occur inside its boundaries. In 2012, a total of 2,001 vehicle accidents occurred in Rockdale County, which resulted in injuries to 486 people and in the deaths of eight people. By 2015, 3,502 accidents took place in the county, with more than 823 injuries reported. The numbers increased again in 2016, with 3,752 total accidents, 888 injuries, and 13 deaths.
