Car Drives Under Box Truck in Rome, GA; No One Seriously Injured
POLK COUNTY, GA. – August 29, 2018 (northwestgeorgianews.com) A car drove under a box truck August 29 in Rome, Georgia, according to an online news report from northwestgeorgianews.com. Unbelievably, both occupants of the wrecked car walked away from the scene.*
At approximately noon on August 29, 25-year-old Jessica Moss, of Polk County, was driving a Honda Civic westbound on Shorter Avenue in Rome. At the intersection with Holmes Avenue (in front of Buffalo’s Restaurant), Moss ran a red light and crashed into a box truck that was making a left turn onto Shorter Avenue from Holmes. Moss’s Honda went underneath the side of the box truck, and the impact collapsed the front of the vehicle, peeled off the hood, and shattered the windshield.
Moss and an unidentified juvenile female in the Honda were both able to get out of the vehicle after the wreck and walk to emergency responders. Both were checked at the scene and did not require any further treatment, an unbelievable fact in light of the damage to Moss’s vehicle. The driver of the truck, 57-year-old James Kellam, of Atlanta, Georgia, was also not injured in the crash.
It is not clear why Moss ran the red light. After conducting a preliminary investigation and speaking with a witness at the site of the crash, authorities cited Moss with failing to obey a traffic device. Traffic on Shorter Avenue was reduced to one lane in each direction for close to an hour, as crews cleared the scene. No additional information about the crash has been reported at this time.
