Beloved Show Horse Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash in Bartow County, Georgia

August 29, 2018

BARTOW COUNTY, GA. – August 24, 2018 (fox5atlanta.com) A beloved show horse died August 22 after a driver crashed through a private Bartow County stable fence and struck the horse, then left the scene. The story is covered by an online news report from fox5atlanta.com.*

Authorities say the incident occurred early in the morning on August 22 at Five Forks Stable on Crown Springs Road in Bartow County, Georgia. A driver crashed through a wire fence and hit the horse, throwing the 1,200 pound animal 75 feet. The owner of the horse, Mitchell Martin, said he was heartbroken. He has trained and cared for horses his whole life, Martin said, and he is devasted by the death of the horse he affectionately named Buck Hi Brow Cat.

Martin is offering a reward of his own money (the amount of which was not reported) to anyone who can provide authorities with information about the vehicle or person involved in the death of his horse. Part of a grill from a Chrysler vehicle and a rebel flag license tag were found at the scene. At this time, Bartow County authorities say the person responsible is facing a traffic violation charge, but he or she could also be charged with additional crimes, depending on the results of the investigation.

Buck Hi Brow Cat was a 3-year-old American quarter show horse. He was showcased just last month. Martin said his only peace of mind comes from knowing the horse did not suffer.

No additional details about the accident are available at this time. Anyone with potential information about the vehicle or driver is encouraged to contact Bartow County authorities.
