Three DeKalb County School Buses Collide on U.S. 78; One Driver Injured

DEKALB COUNTY, GA. – August 24, 2018 ( Three DeKalb County school buses were involved in a chain-reaction collision August 24 on U.S. 78, according to an online article by, and one driver was transported to a hospital with injuries.*

The collision occurred at approximately 9 a.m. on August 24. Before the exit to Interstate 285 on U.S. 78, three school buses hit each other in succession. Eileen Houston-Stewart, a spokesperson for DeKalb County Schools, said none of the buses were carrying students at the time. The district did not provide details about how the crash occurred and did not identify any of the drivers. 

Two of the drivers were checked by medics at the scene and were cleared. The third driver sustained unknown injuries and was transported to DeKalb Medical Center. This driver’s current medical condition is not known. 

Just a few days prior, another Georgia school bus was involved in a vehicle accident. In this incident, a school bus from Lee County, Georgia, was involved in a wreck in Albany, Georgia, on the morning of August 24. The wreck occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. on August 24 at the intersection of Palmyra and Stuart Avenue in Albany, Georgia. A school bus from Lee County and an SUV collided under unknown circumstances. 

It is not clear whether students were on the bus at the time or whether anyone was injured in the accident. The driver of the bus was not identified, and Lee County Schools did not make any statements immediately following the crash. 

Both of these bus crashes remain under investigation by the school districts involved and local authorities. No additional information is available at this time.
