Tennessee Trucker Charged After Crashing into Georgia Trucker on I-40

August 30, 2018

JEFFERSON COUNTY, TN. – August 25, 2018 (citizentribune.com) A crash between two tractor-trailers August 24 resulted in injuries to a Georgia trucker and charges for a Tennessee trucker. The story is reported online by citizentribune.com.*

At approximately 2:05 p.m. on August 24, 61-year-old tractor-trailer driver William Lewis, of Bryon, Georgia, pulled over and parked in the right shoulder of Interstate 40 in Jefferson County, Tennessee. Near mile marker 416, a second tractor-trailer driving on I-40 swerved into the right shoulder and struck Lewis’s semi-truck.

The second tractor-trailer was driven by 63-year-old Saad Seba, of Loudon, Tennessee. In the impact of the accident, the cab of Seba’s truck, a 2018 International, became separated from the frame and slid further into the shoulder with Seba still inside. The frame of his truck and the trailer flew across the interstate and came to a rest in the left shoulder of the westbound lanes.

Lewis was transported to Jefferson Memorial Hospital via Jefferson County EMS. The extent of his injuries and current medical condition are not known at this time. Seba also sustained injuries in the collision (the extent of which is not known) and was transported to UT Medical Center for treatment. His current condition is not reported.

Tennessee Highway Patrol indicates Seba has been charged with failure to exercise due care in connection with the accident. It is not yet clear why he veered into the shoulder. Authorities are still investigating the crash and have not yet released additional information to the public. The collision reportedly caused traffic to back up for approximately eight miles on I-40.
