Victim of Fatal Pedestrian Accident on Georgia Avenue Has Been Identified

September 01, 2018

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD —Montgomery County police identified the man killed in a tragic pedestrian accident. Police identified Tierno Siradiou Bah as the person killed according to the Montgomery Community Media website. Mr. Bah reportedly lived on the 1200 block of Holdridge Road in Silver Spring, MD. The investigating law enforcement officers withheld the decedent’s name from publication until they were able to notify Mr. Bah’s next of kin.*

This unfortunate incident happened on Georgia Avenue, within a short distance from the intersection with Glenallan Avenue in the Wheaton section. Detectives initiated an investigation into the incident after police received information that Bah tried to cross Georgia Avenue between Glenallan Avenue and Urbania Avenue. Bah attempted to cross the lanes of travel headed southerly when a 2006 Dodge Sprinter driven by Alberto Hilario, 56-years-of-age from Bluhill Road in Silver Spring, slammed into Bah. Mr. Hilario remained at the scene and cooperated with police fully by all accounts.

Rescue personnel transported Bah to the nearest hospital with apparent life-threatening injuries. Mr. Bah died at the hospital later on that day.

Police have not charged Mr. Hilario with any crime. The initial investigation showed that Mr. Bah crossed Georgia Avenue without using a crosswalk. Detectives from Montgomery County law enforcement agencies continue to investigate the incident. The outcome of that investigation will determine whether they charge Mr. Hilario with for any transgressions of the criminal law.

Almost 6,000 pedestrians died in car accidents across the U.S. in 2017. The number represents the highest total in 25 years.  Experts opine that the distracted nature of our society contributes to the rising death toll. Furthermore, there are more cars on the road due to a surging economy. That means more people need to be on the road to get to and from work. It also means that folks have the money to afford motor vehicles. Other considerations like alcohol and drug use also figure into the rising death toll of pedestrians.
