Wild Crash Leads to Search for Fugitives in Lithonia, Georgia

September 01, 2018

LITHONIA, GA— A 61-year-old grandmother was critically injured in a freak accident when pumping gas. The driver and the passengers riding in the vehicle that caused the crash fled from the scene and remain at large according to WRBL.com.There is no word yet about whether the police were able to identify the suspects and make an arrest. The injured grandmother remains hospitalized.*

DeKalb County Police officers responded to a gas station and convenience store in Lithonia, GA upon a report that a gray sedan plowed into another car. The initial impact created a chain reaction crash according to witnesses. The witnesses to the collision said that the driver of the gray vehicledrove into the gas station parking lot rapidly and slammed into one car. That collision propelled that car into the other, which, in turn, struck the grandmother’s car while she was fueling it. The grandmother’s car lurched and pinned the grandmother between her car and the gas pumps.

The driver of the gray car that sped into the gas station parking lot and the occupants of that vehicle fled the scene on foot. DeKalb County police officers searched for the vehicle’s occupants with K9 companions but did not apprehend anyone initially. Officers did not have any information whether anyone who bailed out of the abandoned car suffered any injuries. Meanwhile, the grandmother had four of her grandchildren in her car. None of them were harmed in the incident. No one else suffered any injuriesas a result of this crash.

DeKalb County Police have not indicated why the occupants of that gray car fled. The police did not say whether the driver was duly licensed to drive, whether the vehicle insured, to whom the car might have been registered, or whether it was stolen. Police are using surveillance video from the gas station and other locations in the area in an effort toidentify the suspects. No charges have issued to this point.
