Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck By Vehicle in Wheaton, Maryland

WHEATON, MD—A man died after being struck by a vehicle in the area of Wheaton, Maryland. Montgomery County police say the deceased male tried to cross the street around 8:26 p.m. Sunday, August 19, 2018, and a motorist hit him. Emergency personnel rushed the pedestrian to the hospital,butunfortunately,he succumbed to the injuries he suffered in the crash according to Police have not released the man’s name, age, or his hometown.*

Montgomery County police continue to search for clues as to why the man was run down. The investigating officers from the Montgomery County Police Department have requested the public’s help and asked that anyone with information involving the incidentto come forward.S

Police say the man tried to cross the road near Glenallan Avenue in Wheaton when he was struck. The initial investigation conducted by police thus far indicates that the man attempted crossing Georgia Avenue between Glenallan Avenue and Urbania Drive when he was hit. The man was walking southwhen struck. The driver who struck the deceased male, 56-year-old Alberto Hilario of Silver Spring, MD, was uninjured in the crash. He remained at the scene of the collision. Police said that Hilario drove a 2000 Dodge Sprinter in a southerly direction on Georgia Avenue when he collided with the pedestrian. 

Police did not indicate to the media whether they would charge Hilario with any crimes. The case remains under investigation.  Accident reconstruction officers may focus their attention on several facets of the accident. They will need to determine the speed of the car at the instant of impact, measure the length of braking marks, if any, and pay close attention to the lighting in the area at the time of the crash. They must also determine whether the deceased pedestrian was in a crosswalk at the time he was hit.
