Child Seriously Injured In Accident Near School in Buford, Georgia

BUFORD, GA— Gwinnett County police responded to Ivy Creek Elementary School around 7:20 a.m. Monday morning to investigate reports that a child was injuredin a school bus incident. According to the Gwinnett Daily Post, the police believed the child attended Ivy Creek Elementary School. The child’s condition was unknown.*

Police released few details about the Monday morning incident. They did say that first responder received an emergency call for an event that happened at the school, which is locatedoff of Ridge Road in Buford. The police received the call around 7:20 on Monday, August 20, 2018,and responded immediately. First responders treated a boy believed to be younger than ten years of age at the school for injuries relating to a motor vehicle accident. 

A Gwinnett County police corporal responding to inquiriesfrom the media would not affirmatively statethat the child is a student at the Ivy Creek Elementary School. The corporal did acknowledge that emergency medical personnel transported the child to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta in Egleston. Police would not comment on the boy’s current medical status, the extent of his injuries, or how the accident happened. The media did learn that police were investigating to determine whether the boy was seated in a car seat or wearing a seatbelt. Police did not comment on the types of vehicles involved, who might have been driving, or how the boy was related to the operators, if at all. Police did not indicate whether the accident happened on or off school grounds or involved a school bus or other vehicle belonging to the school department. 

School officials also declined to comment on the situation. Police did not indicate whether criminal charges would issue for either driver. They could be waiting to see the extentof the child’s injuries. All are hopeful the child makes a full recovery.
