Havoc On The Roads During Tuesday Morning Commute in Columbus, Georgia

August 25, 2018

COLUMBUS, GA—Driving during the Tuesday morning commute was typically brutal after a car crash in Columbus forced police to reroute traffic. WTVM.com reported that a car accident on Wynnton Road caused traffic tie-ups on Tuesday, August 20, 2018. Local police advised drivers to avoid the area if at all possible to allow for a thorough investigation and for crews to have an opportunity to safely evaluate the injured parties as well as clear the scene of the incident.*

The accident occurred around 8:00 a.m. on Wynnton Road in the vicinity of Lockwood Avenue. The area in which the collision happened on Wynnton Road is a divided highway with two lanes headed in one direction and one lane headed in the opposite. Double solid yellow lines divide the lane of travel. From the photograph accompanying the story on WTVM.com, it appears that two sedans traveling in opposite directions collided on or just over the double yellow lines. The gray vehicle in the lane of travel with two lanes heading in the same trend appears to be angled in such as fashion as to indicate that the driver drifted over the center lines and into the opposite lane of travel where it met an oncoming vehicle. The white sedan in the opposite lane of travel appears to have sustained damage to the driver’s front quarter and door. The door of the white sedan was able to be opened at the scene. The front-end of the gray vehicle appeared to be heavily damaged.

Police have not indicated which driver might be at fault. They did suggest that the operators sustained minor injuries but did not reveal the nature of those injuries. There is no word on if the police will issue any criminal charges.

Columbus Police, Fire, and Emergency Medical Services responded to the crash site. At 8:16 a.m., Georgia 911 used social media to alert people to avoid the area.
