Motorcycle Rider Seriously Injured in Gainesville Accident

GAINESVILLE, GA. – August 18, 2018 ( According to an online news story from, a motorcyclist suffered serious injuries August 18 in an accident in Gainesville, Georgia.*

Shortly before 6 a.m. on August 18, 63-year-old Jerry Joslyn, of Alto, Georgia, was riding a Honda motorcycle southbound on Candler Road in Gainesville. At the entrance ramp to Interstate 985, an Audi turned left in front of Joslyn’s motorcycle, and the two collided. 

Joslyn reportedly suffered serious injuries and was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment. His current medical condition is not known. The driver of the Audi, 28-year-old Tybirus Gardner, was not injured in the accident.

Georgia State Patrol Cpl. Luke Mize said Gardner was at fault in the collision for failing to yield. He has reportedly been cited with failure to yield. It is not clear whether charges will be filed. Georgia State Patrol is continuing to investigate and has not released additional information at this time. 

Gainesville is located in Hall County in the northern part of the state of Georgia. The county has an estimated population of nearly 197,000, and its major roadways include Interstate 985, U.S. Route 23, and U.S. Route 129. 

Vehicle accidents in Hall County have steadily risen during the last several years, according to information compiled by the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. In 2012, a total of 5,205 vehicle accidents occurred in the county, which resulted in 1,351 injuries and 26 deaths. Four of the fatality accidents that year involved motorcyclists. In 2016, the total number of accidents rose to 7,026, leading to 1,581 injuries and 31 deaths. Again, four of the fatality accidents that year involved motorcyclists.
