Car Crashes into Traffic Light in Smyrna, Georgia
SMYRNA, GA. – August 20, 2018 (patch.com) As reported online by patch.com, a vehicle crashed into a traffic light in Smyrna Georgia on August 19, disrupting a busy intersection during the start of the work week.*
Shortly before midnight on August 19, a car slammed into a traffic light at the intersection of South Cobb Drive and Pat Mell Road in Smyrna. Police responded to the scene during the early morning hours, and the intersection was shut down for several hours, which tied up traffic for morning commuters in the area.
It is not clear whether the driver of vehicle stayed at the scene or whether anyone was injured as a result of the accident. The cause of the accident is not known. Smyrna authorities are investigating the collision and have not yet provided additional details to the public.
This is the second crash to interfere with a traffic light on South Cobb Road in about a month. A two-vehicle crash on July 13 downed the hanging traffic lights at the intersection of Windy Hill Road and South Cobb Drive in Smyrna. Reports from that accident indicated one person was injured and transported to a local hospital for treatment. This person, who has not been identified, was said to be in stable condition at the time.
The accident occurred in the afternoon of July 13 and affected rush-hour traffic in the area. Authorities shut down the intersection to all traffic for several hours as crews restrung the lights. By that evening, the lights were up and running again, and normal traffic was able to resume.
