Motorcyclist Life-Flighted After Valdosta Traffic Accident

VALDOSTA, GA. – August 15, 2018 ( According to a report from the news website, a motorcyclist was seriously injured in a traffic accident August 15 in Valdosta, Georgia.*

The accident occurred at approximately 1 p.m. on August 15 on Inner Perimeter Road in Valdosta. A motorcycle and a passenger vehicle collided, and the motorcyclist suffered severe injuries. It is not clear whether anyone in the passenger vehicle was hurt. 

The Valdosta Police Department reported that the motorcyclist, who has not been identified, was life-flighted to a nearby hospital. His or her current medical condition is not known. It is not clear how the accident occurred or who was at fault. Valdosta authorities are continuing to investigate. 

According to the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, more than 10 percent of all traffic fatalities in Georgia involve motorcyclists. In 2016, more than 170 motorcyclists were killed in vehicle accidents. People age 20 to 29 are statistically most likely to be involved in fatal motorcycle accidents.  

Data from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety show vehicle accidents in Lowndes County, where Valdosta is located, have increased during the last several years. In 2013, 1,384 vehicle accidents occurred in the county. That number almost doubled the following year, jumping to 2,620. In 2015, the number of accidents increased to 3,698 and moved up to more than 4,000 in 2016. The highest number of fatal accidents occurred during 2015, when 18 people died in traffic crashes. One of those fatal accidents involved a motorcyclist. 

Vehicle accidents in Lowndes County in 2016 led to 1,318 injuries and 17 fatalities. Four of the fatal accidents that year involved alcohol consumption by one of the drivers. Two of the fatal accidents involved motorcyclists.
