University of Georgia Football Player Involved in Motorcycle Accident

ATHENS, GA. – August 16, 2018 ( According to an online report from, a University of Georgia football player was involved in a motorcycle accident on August 16 in Athens, Georgia.*

Freshman tight end Luke Ford, of Cartersville, Georgia, reportedly lost control of his motorcycle on Highway 129 near Pendergrass. The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. on August 16, near the University of Georgia campus. Ford self-reported the accident, according to Georgia State Patrol, and was actually back on his motorcycle riding when he flagged down an officer. He suffered minor injuries, including a foot injury and road rash. He was transported to Athens Regional for treatment.

The incident was single-vehicle, according to authorities, so no other vehicles were involved, and no one else was injured. 

Ford is a former four-star and was the top-ranked tight end of 2017, according to, a site that also ranked the freshman athlete as the 42nd-overall player on a national scale. He was rated the country’s No. 3 tight-end after being selected a 2018 Army All-American. Ford is currently the third-team tight end for Georgia, behind Isaac Nauta and Charlie Woerner. 

Athens is located in Athens-Clarke County. The county is formed from a recent consolidation of Clarke County and the City of Athens. It is located in the north-eastern part of the state of Georgia and has an estimated population of approximately 125,000. 

In 2016, according to data from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, nearly 6,000 vehicle accidents occurred in Clarke County. These accidents led to 1,360 injuries and 13 fatalities. One of the fatal accidents that year involved a motorcyclist.
