August 23, 2018

PAULDING COUNTY, GA. – August 15, 2018 ( A child killed in a motor vehicle accident August 14 had just started preschool and was one month away from her fifth birthday. The story is reported online by*

On the afternoon of August 15, Haley Borders Sell was driving on Ga. 101 South in Paulding County, Georgia, when her van was hit from behind by a truck. Sell was about to turn into the driveway of her father’s house, where she was picking up two of her children. The driver of the truck, 20-year-old Tyler Arron Taylor, of Dallas, told Georgia State Patrol Troopers he was “distracted” prior to the crash. The Georgia State Patrol report says, “[Taylor] stated that he dropped a bottle and his phone in the floor of the vehicle. [Taylor] stated that he was leaning down to pick up the items when he noticed [the other vehicle] stopped.”

Taylor reportedly tried to stop before hitting the van but was not able to in time. The van flipped into a ditch near Honeysuckle Lane. Sell’s 4-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son were in the vehicle at the time of the collision. The 4-year-old girl sadly died from her injuries. She had just started preschool and was one month away from her fifth birthday. She was also the granddaughter of a Paulding County Sheriff’s detention officer.

The family has set up a GoFundMe account to help pay for funeral expenses and medical expenses. The girl’s name has been released but withheld from this story for privacy reasons. On the GoFundMe page, Sell said the family is heartbroken, and that the worst part is “I’m planning a funeral instead of a trolls birthday party for my sweet beautiful baby girl.”

Paulding County authorities are investigating the collision and have not released additional information at this time.
