Georgia Man Among Two Victims of Fatal Four-Vehicle Accident in Alabama

August 21, 2018

MACON COUNTY, AL. – August 16, 2018 (thetuskegeenews.com) According to an online news report from thetuskegeenews.com, two men were killed in a four-vehicle collision August 9 in Macon County, Alabama. One of the victims was from Georgia.*

At approximately 7:20 a.m. on August 9, 71-year-old James Carl McCorvey, of Columbus, Georgia, was driving a 2017 Nissan Frontier on U.S. Highway 80 in Macon County, Alabama. At mile marker 184, near the intersection of Highway 80 and Sol Brown Road, McCorvey sideswiped a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse, then collided with a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis. Thereafter, a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado crashed into McCorvey’s Nissan.

The Macon County Deputy Coroner pronounced McCorvey dead at the scene. The driver of the Mercury, 39-year-old Derrick Wayne Shelton, of Prattville, Alabama, also died at the scene.

The driver of the Chevy Silverado and a passenger in the Mercury, both of whom have not been identified, were transported to East Alabama Medical Center with injuries. One reportedly had minor injuries, and the other was transported just for observation, according to the Deputy Coroner. It does not appear anyone in the Chevy Traverse was injured.

It is not clear what caused the initial collision to occur. Alabama authorities are investigating the collision and have not released additional information to the public at this time. As it appears McCorvey was responsible for setting the crash in motion and did not survive his injuries, it is not likely that anyone will be charged or cited.
