Car Crashes into Atlanta Home; Driver Says Street Racers Caused the Collision

August 20, 2018

ATLANTA, GA. – (wsbtv.com) A car crashed into an Atlanta home according to an online news report from wsbtv.com, and the driver says street racers caused the accident.*

A new yellow Dodge Challenger smashed into a home in the 2000 block of Burroughs Avenue in Atlanta, Georgia. At least two people were inside the home at the time of the crash, including 86-year-old Mary Bledsoe, who said she was sitting in a chair right near the crash site just moments prior. Another family member was reportedly sitting on the front porch seconds before the crash.

A man, a woman, and a toddler were in the Challenger at the time of the crash. The man reported that street racers cut him off on the road, and he swerved to avoid a collision, then barreled into the house. He told police the Challenger was a rental car, and officers cited him for failure to maintain a lane.

None of the people in the car has been identified, but Bledsoe says they lived across the street. The investigation into the crash continues, and no additional information is available at this time.

Occurrences of cars crashing into homes and buildings are not all that rare. Several of these crashes occur every day around the United States, causing damage to property and injuries to people. Many of these accidents are caused by inattentive or distracted driving, driving under the influence, and pedal error or gear error. Distracted driving laws, like Georgia’s new Hands-Free Law, are aimed in part at cutting down incidences of cars crashing into buildings.
