Worker Dies in Industrial Accident at Disney World in Orange County, Florida

ORANGE COUNTY, FL. – ( As reported online by, a worker died in an industrial accident at Walt Disney World in Florida.*

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department indicates the incident occurred just after midnight on August 15. A 61-year-old male employee was emptying oil and grease byproduct from a tractor-trailer into a vat at a Reedy Creek energy facility off of Western Way. The site is near Cast Connection and Property Control, not far from Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The man was standing on a grate and reportedly slipped and fell into the vat. 

Another employee who was working with him tried to reach him and pull him out but was unable to do so. The man who originally fell then was sadly overwhelmed by the fumes from the byproduct and slipped further into the vat. He tragically died on site. 

Reedy Creek Fire and Orange County Sheriff’s deputies assisted in recovering the body and are investigating the incident. The victim has not been identified, and no additional information has been released at this time. 

This is the second deadly industrial accident to occur at Disney World in about two months. Juan Alberto Ojeda died in an accident at a Disney property, on Century Drive, near Disney’s Pop Century Resort. No information about how Ojeda died was released at the time. 

George A. Kalogridis, president of Walt Disney World Resort, said in a statement: “All of us at Walt Disney World Resort are deeply saddened today by the loss of one of our Cast Members. This is a tragic accident, and we are providing resources and care for those impacted and are working closely with the proper authorities to understand how this happened.”
