Additional Information Released on Student Struck by Car in Lowndes County

LOWNDES COUNTY, GA. – (wctv.com) According to an online news report from wctv.com, more information has been released regarding a middle school student that was struck by a car August 15 in Lowndes County, Georgia.*

Reports indicate the student, a 13-year-old girl, was trying to cross Cat Creek Road in Lowndes County to board a school bus. Near the area of Normal Hall Road, she was struck by a Nissan Murano. 

The student, who has still not been identified, was reportedly transported to South Georgia Medical Center with unknown injuries. Troopers with the Georgia State Patrol say she is conscious and in stable condition. Troopers also indicated that charges are pending against the driver of the Nissan, based on the outcome of the investigation. 

The Nissan driver not been identified. No information has been released regarding what caused the accident to occur. Lowndes County authorities are investigating and have not yet provided additional details to the public. 

Lowndes County Schools issued the following statement in response to the incident: “Lowndes County Schools confirm that a middle school student was struck by a car this morning on Cat Creek Road, as the student attempted to get on a bus. The student was transported to South Georgia Medical Center and is currently undergoing tests. An investigation of the incident is ongoing. At the beginning of the school year, we encourage drivers to be extra careful as they approach bus stops, students getting on and off of buses, students walking to school, and school buses preparing to stop. Student safety is our top priority!”
