17-Year-Old Driver Kills Pedestrian in Glynn County, Georgia

GLYNN COUNTY, GA. – ( According to an online article from, a teenage driver struck and killed a pedestrian in Glynn County, Georgia.*

At approximately 9:35 p.m., 36-year-old Joseph Edward Clark, of Camden County, was walking southbound along U.S. Highway 17 in Glynn County. A 17-year-old male driver veered into the shoulder of the highway, striking and killing Clark. 

Troopers with Georgia State Patrol indicate the driver, who has not been identified, veered “just barely” across the line and struck Clark. Georgia State Patrol is still investigating the circumstances of the collision and has not yet released additional information. Charges are reportedly pending against the teenage driver.

Glynn County is located in the southeastern corner of the state of Georgia. It has a population of approximately 92,000, and its major roadways include Interstate 95, U.S. Route 17, U.S. Route 25, U.S. Route 82, and U.S. Route 341.

According to the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, vehicle accidents in Glynn County have been on the rise during the last several years. In 2012, a total of 1,004 vehicle accidents occurred in the county. By 2015, the number had steadily risen up to 2,706 accidents. In 2016, 2,722 vehicle accidents occurred in the county, leading to injuries to 611 people and the deaths of seven people. 

During a five-year period between 2012 and 2016, the highest number of fatal vehicle accidents occurred in 2014, when 16 people died in motor vehicle crashes. Three of the people who died that year in crashes were pedestrians.
