UPDATE: Additional Information Released on Lowndes County Fatal Wreck

LOWNDES COUNTY, GA. – ( Additional information has been released regarding a vehicle accident in Lowndes County, Georgia, August 8 that killed one man, according to an online news report from* 

A 2013 Chrysler 200 was traveling eastbound on Carroll Ulmer Road in Lowndes County. At the intersection with Loch Laurel Road, the Chrysler’s driver failed to stop at a stop sign. Upon entering the intersection, the Chrysler struck a Nissan Altima traveling northbound on Loch Laurel Road. 

The driver of the Chrysler was transported to Archbold Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. This driver has still not been identified, but new reports say she is an 18-year-old female. The driver of the Nissan, 40-year-old Rahsaan Simon, of Valdosta, Georgia, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. 

Georgia State Patrol indicates the driver of the Chrysler was wearing a seat belt, while Simon was not. Newly released information also indicates the airbag in Simon’s vehicle did not deploy during the crash. Troopers have indicated alcohol was not a factor in the collision. They are continuing to investigate the accident and have not released additional information at this time. It is not clear whether any charges will be filed.

The fatal crash rates in the U.S. are highest when measured both by population (10.3 deaths per every 100,000 people) and by registered vehicles ( 1.24 deaths per every 10,000 registered vehicles). The U.S. also has the fifth-highest rate of motor vehicle deaths based on miles traveled (1.10 deaths per every 100 million miles traveled).
