One Person Killed in Tift County Vehicle Collision

TIFT COUNTY, GA. – August 8, 2018 ( According to an online news report from, a vehicle collision in Tift County, Georgia, left one person dead.*

The collision occurred on Old Ocilla Road in Tift County. Trooper Slade Reid of the Georgia State Patrol said the accident was essentially a head-on collision. No details were provided as to how the collision occurred. 

The Tift County Deputy Coroner pronounced 64-year-old Sherry Mobley dead at the scene. Her cause of death has not been released, pending an autopsy. It appears Mobley was the driver of one of the vehicles. 

Tift County authorities say charges are pending against the driver of the other vehicle, who has not been identified at this time. The Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team with the Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash and has not yet released additional information. 

Tift County is located in southern Georgia and has an estimated population of about 40,500. The county’s major roadways include Interstate 75, U.S. Route 41, U.S. Route 82, and U.S. Route 319. According to the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, vehicle accidents have been on the rise in Tift County during the last several years. In 2012, a total of 1,168 vehicle accidents occurred in the county. These accidents resulted in 325 injuries and one fatality. 

The number of accidents rose each of the following years, reaching 1,643 total accidents in 2016. The 2016 vehicle accidents in Tift County led to 350 injuries and 12 fatalities. Many fatal accidents in the county can be attributed to speeding or alcohol consumption.
