UPDATE: Kokomo, IN, Accident Might Have Been Caused by Equipment Failure

August 17, 2018

KOKOMO, IN. – August 8, 2018 (kokomotribune.com) According to an online news report from kokomo.com, a four-vehicle collision in Kokomo, Indiana, might have been caused by equipment failure in a Georgia driver’s tractor-trailer.*

At approximately 9:15 a.m. on August 6, 44-year-old Lisa Miller and her three children, ages 12, 6, and 3 months, were driving their Ford full-size van near the area of Indiana 931 and 300 North. A tractor-trailer driven by George L. Brent, 61, of McDonough, Georgia, suddenly struck the van from behind, sending it into the south side of the intersection. Thereafter, two other vehicles became involved in the crash, a Jeep Liberty and a Honda Odyssey.

Miller and her three children were flown to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana, by two helicopters. Miller’s husband reports all four of them are expected to make a full recovery. Miller and the two older children have reportedly been released from the hospital, but the 3-month-old child remains in the hospital for the time being.

Brent was not injured but was transported to a local hospital for a blood draw, which local authorities say is protocol after a crash involving a commercial tractor-trailer. At this time, there is no evidence that alcohol was a factor in the collision.

The driver of the Jeep, 25-year-old Kylie Poe, of Sharpsville, Indiana, and the driver of the Honda, 71-year-old Larry Hart, of Kokomo, were taken to Kokomo hospitals for treatment of unknown injuries.

Indiana authorities are investigating the cause of the collision, and Kokomo police now believe the accident might have been caused by equipment failure. It is not clear whether any citations will be issued in connection with the accident.
