Students Injured in New Hampshire School Bus Crash

August 15, 2018

GREENLAND, NH. – August 10, 2018 (macon.com) According to an online news story from macon.com, a school bus crash in New Hampshire resulted in injuries to the driver and several students.*

The crash occurred on August 3 on Interstate 95 in Greenland, New Hampshire. The school bus was transporting children on a summer program field trip — the Kittery (Maine) Community Center SAFE program — and reportedly veered off the roadway and crashed into a line of trees. Reports indicate the bus driver might have suffered a medical emergency, which led to the loss of control and subsequent crash. Details about the potential medical emergency have not been disclosed, and the driver has not been identified.

Kendra Amaral, the town manager of Kittery, Maine, said two adult counselors and 11 children were on the bus at the time of the crash. Photos from the scene show the front end of the bus completely crushed. The bus driver, an 18-year-old counselor, and one 10-year-old student suffered the most serious injuries. However, no one sustained life-threatening injuries, according to reports.

New Hampshire State Police are investigating the crash and have not released additional information at this time.

Because of their size and design, accidents involving school buses are relatively rare. The buses are highly visible, making them easier to see and avoid by other drivers, and the interiors are designed to protect children in the event of a crash. The seats absorb a lot of the impact in an accident, allowing children a better chance of coming out of an accident unscathed.
