Driver Will Not Face Charges After Hitting Two Pedestrians in Atlanta

ATLANTA, GA. – August 10, 2018 (cbs46.com) A driver who hit two pedestrians in Atlanta August 3 will not face charges, according to an online article from cbs46.com.*

At approximately 1:30 a.m. on August 3, two people were reportedly in a northeast Atlanta roadway filming a rap music video. It is not clear who was filming the video. At the intersection of Jackson Street and Highland Avenue, a vehicle struck the two people. They were both taken to Atlanta Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Neither has been identified. 

The driver, who has also not been identified, said the people were wearing dark clothing and standing in the road. She told police she was unable to see them until it was too late. 

The two pedestrians were cited with pedestrian in the roadway, and the driver will reportedly not be charged in connection with the accident. Atlanta authorities are continuing to investigate and have not released additional information at this time. 

Atlanta is located in Fulton County, Georgia (though a portion of it extends into DeKalb County). Fulton County has an estimated population of more than 1 million. In 2016, according to data from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, nearly 61,000 vehicle accidents occurred in Fulton County. These vehicle accidents led to 12,875 injuries and 129 deaths. 

During the five-year period between 2012 and 2016, Fulton County saw a significant increase in vehicle collisions. In 2012, a total of 22,275 vehicle accidents occurred in the county, leading to 4,498 injuries and 77 deaths. By 2015, the number of accidents had grown well above 50,000, with fatality accidents reaching more than 100.
