California Collision Results in Fight, Deaths of Both Drivers

August 13, 2018

SACRAMENTO, CA. – August 13, 2018 (foxnews.com) A vehicle collision August 12 in Northern California led to a fight between the drivers and the deaths of both, according to an online news article from foxnews.com.*

At approximately 3:45 a.m. on August 12, two vehicles collided on Interstate 5 North, about 10 miles from downtown Sacramento. The two drivers stopped near the Del Paso Road exit, got out of their vehicles, and began fighting. According to California Highway Patrol, one of the men pulled out a blunt object (it is not clear what the object was) and beat the other man to death. He then walked away into the middle of the interstate, where he was struck and killed by an oncoming vehicle.

The driver of the third vehicle stayed at the scene and spoke to police. It does not appear this driver was injured. None of the people involved has been identified at this time, and it is not clear what caused the initial collision between the two men. The only thing authorities are certain about is that the incident involved road rage.

“Fights on the freeway between angry motorists, whether it’s the result of a traffic collision or some sort of road rage type incident, occur quite often,” California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Zerfas told reporters. “Usually not in the middle of the lanes, like it happened here.”

Following the incident, the northbound lanes of the interstate were closed to allow authorities to investigate. Zerfas says the entire situation could have been avoided if the drivers contacted police right after the collision.

“If you’re involved in a traffic collision, call 911, report the incident, and let officers come out to the scene,” he said. “And if there’s any type of conflict between the involved motorists, that’s for us to handle.”
