DOOLEY COUNTY, GA. – August 13, 2018 ( According to an online news report from, the Dooley County School System posted a tribute to a teacher on August 13, saying the teacher died August 10.*

The Dooley County Schools Superintendent’s Office told reporters that Lori Saldana, 36, died in a vehicle accident on August 10. The office did not provide any additional details. Reporters with WALB have reached out to the Georgia State Patrol to find out what happened and indicate they will update the story linked above when a report or statement is received.

On its website, the Dooley County School System said the district was mourning “the loss of Mrs. Lori Saldana, the migrant teacher for the district. Mrs. Saldana gave unselfishly to the students, parents, and staff of all schools in the district. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this tragic time.”

The district also posted funeral information and a “short story” about Saldana. Funeral services are planned for August 16 at the Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel in Oglethorpe, Georgia. The story says Saldana was a “fun and wonderful spirit who is loved, is missed, and will always be cherished.”

She was born in Americus, Georgia, and married “the love of her life,” David P. Saldana, in 1997. They had three children, David Jr., Juan Michael, and Jazeline Zenaida. Saldana was a teacher for 19 years and was constantly devoted to kids and families, the post says.
