NTSB: Pilot Killed by Plane Propeller in Tennessee Was Traveling to Georgia with Wife

August 13, 2018

CLEVELAND, TN. – August 13, 2018 (newschannel9.com) A preliminary report by the National Transportation Safety Board indicates a pilot hit in the head by a plane propeller in Tennessee was about to travel to Georgia with his wife. A story from newschannel9.com shows NTSB’s report raises a number of questions about the man’s death.*

On the afternoon of July 26, 69-year-old Lenny Kramer was struck in the head by the propeller of a private Cessna 182P airplane at the Cleveland Regional Jetport airport. Police in Cleveland, Tennessee, said Kramer was a pilot, and that he and his wife were visiting from Florida and had flown themselves to Tennessee.

NTSB indicates the couple ran some errands then returned to the plane to take off for Blairsville, Georgia (it is not clear why they were traveling to Georgia). Kramer’s wife said Kramer was performing preflight inspections, and she heard the propeller move and the engine make a noise as if it was starting. She said both were unusual noises for the situation, particularly in light of her telling officials that the plane’s ignition key was in her husband’s pocket at the time. She then saw her husband fall to the ground. The propeller stopped moving, she said, and she ran to get help.

Kramer was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where he tragically died of his injuries. The NTSB report does not identify a cause of the accident, so that information is still unknown. The report raises more questions about what might have happened to Kramer and how the propeller came into motion that afternoon.
