Woman Airlifted After Single-Vehicle Wreck in Walton County, Georgia

WALTON COUNTY, GA. – August 13, 2018 (waltontribune.com) A woman was airlifted from the site of a single-vehicle accident August 13 in Walton County, Georgia, according to an online news report from waltontribune.com.*

The crash occurred on August 13 at the intersection of Old Highway 81, just south of Walnut Grove Elementary School in Walton County. A woman had to be extricated from the vehicle, according to Walton County Fire Rescue, and was airlifted to an Atlanta hospital. The woman has not been identified, and her current medical condition is not known. It is unclear whether she was the only person inside the vehicle at the time of the crash.

The cause and nature of the collision are not known at this time. The Walton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating and has not yet released additional information. 

Walton County is located in the northern portion of the state of Georgia. The county has an estimated population of more than 90,000, and its major roadways include Interstate 20, U.S. Route 78, and U.S. Route 278. 

According to data collected by the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, a fair amount of vehicle accidents occur in Walton County every year. In 2012, 1,453 vehicle accidents occurred in the county, resulting in injuries to 369 people and the deaths of five people. Accident figures rose steadily during the next four years. In 2016, a total of 2,729 vehicle accidents occurred in the county, leading to 679 injuries. 

The highest number of vehicle fatalities from 2012 to 2016 occurred in 2016, when 16 people died in motor vehicle accidents. Almost 25 percent of those fatality accidents involved alcohol or excessive speeding. Two of the people killed were pedestrians.
