Colquitt County School Bus Crashes; No Students Injured

August 13, 2018

COLQUITT COUNTY, GA. – ( According to an online news story from, a Colquitt County School bus was involved in a minor collision August 8, but thankfully, no students were injured.*

The collision occurred at approximately 3:20 p.m. on Third Street in Berlin, Georgia. The bus was in the process of taking children home from the school day. It is not clear what caused the collision to occur, and few circumstances of the accident have been released.

Doug Howell, Superintendent of Colquitt County Schools, said the driver of a car struck the rear of the bus, or the bus struck a car while reversing. He did not have enough information at the time to confirm which version was correct. However, Howell said no children were hurt, and the bus was not damaged. The collision occurred at a low rate of speed.

A different bus came to the scene after the accident and transported the children to their destinations, Howell said. Georgia State Patrol will investigate the collision, along with the school district, to determine what happened and who, if anyone, was at fault. At this time, no citations have been issued, and no additional information has been released.

Data from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety shows that Colquitt County was the site of 776 vehicle accidents in 2016. These accidents led to 233 injuries and eight deaths. During the five-year period between 2012 and 2016, the highest number of vehicle accidents in the county occurred in 2013 with 920 recorded. This was a huge jump from the previous year, during which 191 accidents occurred in Colquitt County.
