Officials Respond to Accident in Muscogee County Involving Car and Log Truck

MUSCOGEE COUNTY, GA. – August 6, 2018 ( According to an online news report from, officials in Muscogee County, Georgia, were responding to a vehicle accident August 6 involving a car and a logging truck.*

The accident occurred on the evening of August 6, near the Muscogee County line on Warm Springs Road. A car and a log truck collided, and the car subsequently caught on fire, according to the Ellerslie Volunteer Fire Department. 

One person had to be extracted from the burning car. It is not clear how many people were involved or whether anyone was seriously injured. Authorities have not indicated how the accident occurred and have not identified anyone involved. 

First responders from both Ellerslie and Columbus arrived at the scene to assist. The roadway was blocked following the accident to allow crews to clear the scene. At the time of the linked news report, it was not clear how long the road would remain blocked. Authorities were encouraging drivers in the area of Warm Springs Road to use caution while crews remained on scene. The accident is still under investigation by Muscogee County authorities, and no additional information has yet been released. 

Muscogee County, Georgia, has an estimated population of 194,000. Its major roadways include Interstate 185, U.S. Route 27, U.S. Route 80, and U.S. Route 280. 

According to data from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, Muscogee County sees a large number of vehicle accidents each year. In 2016, a total of 8,299 vehicle accidents occurred in the county, which led to 1,659 injuries and 27 deaths. This was the highest rate of fatal accidents in the county during a five-year period, with the next-highest being 20 fatal accidents in 2012.
