Authorities Identify Five Victims of California Plane Crash

SANTA ANA, CA. – August 6, 2018 ( Authorities have identified the five people killed in a plane crash August 5 in Southern California, according to an online news article from*

The twin-engine Cessna airplane was traveling from Concord, California, in the San Francisco Bay area. It was making an approach to John Wayne Airport, southeast of Los Angeles, on August 5 when it suddenly nosedived and crashed into a shopping center parking lot in Santa Ana, California. The pilot of the plane and all four passengers aboard were sadly killed in the crash. 

Officials have now identified the pilot and the four passengers. Scott Shepherd, 53, of Diablo, California, was the pilot. Passengers included 42-year-old Lara Shepherd, of Diablo; 62-year-old Floria Hakimi, of Danville, California; 32-year-old Navid Hakimi, of Los Angeles; and 29-year-old Nasim Ghanadan, of Alamo, California. 

The cause of the accident is under investigation, and no additional details have been released at this time. No one on the ground was injured during the crash. 

California has seen several small plane crashes on state roadways this summer. On June 29, a twin-engine Cessna 310 airplane crashed onto the 405 freeway south of Los Angeles, killing two people on board. The plane had taken off from the John Wayne Airport and experienced an emergency shortly after takeoff. It was attempting to return to the airport when it crashed on the freeway. 

On June 15, a Beechcraft Bonanza airplane crashed onto a roadway in San Bernardino County, California, killing two people on board. It appeared the plane was attempting to land at the Hesperia Airport and experienced issues, causing it to crash and burst into flames on a road near the airport.
