Cartersville Police Officer Credited with Saving Two Lives in Fiery Crash
Cartersville, GA - A local police officer,saved two people from a burning pickup truck on July 18, 2018, in Floyd County. That officer, Corporal Justin Lusian, received an award from the Floyd County Police Department for his outstanding bravery and commitment to public service, according to the Cartersville Patch. Not only did Corporal Lusianrisk his own life to save two trapped motorists, but he also organized their medical treatment roadside with the assistance of other Good Samaritans.*
Corporal Lusian is a 19-year veteran of the Cartersville Police Department. On July 18, 2018, he happened upon a frightening scene: he saw a pickup truck that had slammed into a tree and exploded into flames. Without regard for his well-being, Corporal Lusian rushed to the aid of the trapped motorists. He pulled the driver of the pickup and the passenger to safety. Corporal Lusian instructed bystanders who were willing to help how to assist with first-aid. He also made sure that the motorists and the Good Samaritans were far enough away from the engulfed truck so that the fire would not endanger them.
When Floyd County first responders arrived at the crash site, Corporal Lucian had both of the trapped motorists out of the truck. Floyd County Police and Fire noted that the flames emanating from the engine compartment of the truck had burned its way into the passenger compartment.
Floyd County Police wrote a glowing letter of commendation on Corporal Lusian’sbehalf to the Cartersville Police Department. Accordingly, Cartersville PD honored him by presenting the department’s Safety Award to him.
For those who work with Corporal Lusian, they say his actions were “all in a day’s work.” Corporal Lusian’s superior officers expected nothing less from the veteran policeman. They say he is a dedicated public servant and an exceptional police officer. The Cartersville Police Department offered the victims of the crash their best wishes for a full and speedy recovery from their injuries.
