Funeral Plans Announced for Driver Who Died in 3-Vehicle Collision

August 08, 2018

CANTON, GA- According to patch.com, plans for the funeral service for a driver from Canton who was killed in a collision on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, have been set. The service will took place on August 4, 2018, at the Darby Funeral Home.*

The driver, 22-year-old Robert Allan Stone, was driving north on Interstate 575 in Canton when he lost control of his vehicle, and it rolled over. Stone’s vehicle stopped in the middle of the road and was subsequently struck by two more vehicles, which were also traveling north. Stone died at the scene of the crash.

The driver of one of the vehicles that struck Stone’s vehicle was injured in the collision. The driver was taken to the WellStar Kennestone Hospital. The occupants of the other vehicle that struck Stone’s car did not suffer any injuries.

Stone’s family has requested that donation be made to the Arnold Palmer Foundation in lieu of flowers.

Rollover crashes are often deadly. Data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) indicates that while only 21% of car accidents involve a vehicle flipping over, 35% of traffic fatalities occur in car accidents that involve vehicle rollovers.

Seat belts are highly effective in reducing the risk of being killed in a rollover crash. Out of all rollover fatalities, 69% of those killed were not using their seat belts when they crashed. While seat belt usage rates have been increasing and reached a national rate of 90.1% of people using their seat belts in 2016, the percent of vehicle accident victims who were not using seat belts remains rather high. If everyone used their seat belts, thousands of lives would be saved in the United States every year.
