Theme Park Accident at Lake Winnie Injures Ride Attendant

August 04, 2018

ROSSVILLE, GA- According to newschannel9.com, a theme park ride attendant was hospitalized following an accident at Lake Winnie on Tuesday, July 31, 2018. The incident reportedly occurred on the Alpine Way Chair Lift.*

A child on the ride got their hand pinched in the lap bar. The attendant was attempting to help the child when the ride started, and the attendant got stuck onto the chair. The attendant was hanging onto the chair, but fell and landed on concrete.

The attendant sustained scrapesand bruises and was transported to a nearby hospital. The child whose finger was caught was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

The problem appears to be with the employee training practices and not a flaw with the ride itself. An inspector is scheduled to visit the scene on Wednesday, August 1, 2018.

This event was not the first injury to occur at Lake Winnie this year. Earlier in the summer, a 42-year-old woman sustained injuries while riding the Wild Lightning Ride. The woman apparently fell out of her cart. In May, another accident caused a woman to break her foot on the Boat Chute. The park was fined $500 following that incident.

Injuries at amusement parks led to around 30,000 emergency room visits in 2016. However, the data on the subject is potentially incomplete, and regulations regarding amusement park safety and reporting of injuries vary across the United States. There are several states that have no regulations for amusements parks. States that do not regulate amusement parks include “Alabama, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, Wyoming, and Utah.” The states that do not have oversight on the state level do not have many amusement parks.
