Two Teens Face Murder Charges after Road Rage Incident

August 04, 2018

MISSOURI- According to the nypost.com, two teenagers in Missouri were involved in a minor traffic accident that turned deadly. The incident occurred when 57-year-old Leonard Joyner’s vehicle rolled backward at an intersection in Kansas City. Joyner’s Lincoln Town Car tapped into a Chevrolet Trailblazer.*

The driver of the Trailblazer, 18-year-old Rafeasia Kirkland and a passenger traveling in her vehicle, 19-year-old Trayvon Shepheard, both exited their vehicle. According to witnesses, Joyner got out of his car and offered money to the couple to pay for repairs to the vehicle.

Shepheard went back to the Trailblazer where he obtained a handgun and then shot Joyner in the street. While Kirkland returned to her vehicle, Shepheard reportedly fired more shots into Joyner while he was on the ground.

Shepheard and Joyner then drove away from the scene but were caught on surveillance cameras in the area.

The pair was arrested, and they are both now facing charges. Shepheard was charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and tampering with evidence. Kirkland is facing charges for tampering with evidence.

Joyner was planning to spend his 58th birthday at home in Atlanta. His two daughters, who both attend Georgia State University, were planning on spending the weekend with their father.

Shepheard has claimed that he only shot Joyner because Joyner had pulled a gun on him first. He claims that following the shooting, he grabbed Joyner’s gun and saw that it was a bb gun. He claims to have thrown it out the window of his vehicle as he drove away. Kirkland videoed the encounter, but according to Shepheard, deleted the footage.
