August 08, 2018

JACKSON COUNTY, GA- The madisonjournaltoday.com reports that a man was sadly killed in an accident on July 30, 2018, in a vehicle collision that occurred in Jackson County. The victim was identified as 85-year-old Andrew J. Adams of Danielsville. Adams died in a two-vehicle accident that happened at the intersection of Highway 98 and Highway 441 at about 6:59 p.m.*

Adams was in a 2008 Volvo SUV, and his son, 51-year-oldAndrew R. Adams, also from Danielsville was driving the vehicle. The victim’s son survived the collision but suffered serious injuries.

The victim’s son was attempting to make a left turn onto Highway 98, but according to the Georgia State Police, he failed to yield the right of way. A northbound logging truck struck the passenger side of the vehicle. The driver of the truck, 62-year-old Franklin Draught Jr. of Commerce, sustained minor injuries in the collision.

Intersections only account for a small portion of overall road systems, and yet a large percentage of car accidents occur at intersections. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that about 40% of all accidents happen at intersections. The most common contributing cause of intersection accidents is left turns. About 22.2% of all vehicle collisions are the result of a car attempting to make a left turn.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) concluded that intersection accidents account for a larger percentage of fatal crashes in urban areas than in rural locations. In urban areas, 33% of fatal crashes happen at intersections, but in rural areas, just 16% of fatal crashes happen at intersections.
