UPDATE: Young Woman Killed in Gwinnett County Crash Had 2-Year-Old Daughter
GWINNETT COUNTY, GA. – July 26, 2018 (ajc.com) The young woman killed in a major vehicle accident in Gwinnett County, Georgia, had a 2-year-old daughter, according to an online story from ajc.com.*
31-year-old Tyquan Samuel, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, was driving a 2001 Green BMW 3251 southbound on Buford Drive/Highway 20 in Gwinnett County (earlier reports indicated he was driving an Audi). Near Azalea Drive, Samuel reportedly lost control of his vehicle and crossed the median.
Upon crossing the median, Samuel sideswiped a 2015 Audi Q7, causing the Audi to spin out. Samuel then continued on and crashed into a third vehicle, a 2018 Ford Focus driven by 23-year-old Sinee Hicks, of Lawrenceville. An approaching 2010 Toyota Camry was then unable to avoid the growing pileup and struck Hicks’ Focus on its passenger side. This impact sent Hicks’ vehicle sliding toward Samuel’s BMW, which by that point, was engulfed in flames.
Hicks was trapped inside her vehicle and suffered severe burn injuries to 60 percent of her body because of the proximity to Samuel’s vehicle. Fire rescuers extracted Hicks from her vehicle, and she was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta in critical condition. On July 20, doctors indicated Hicks had no brain activity. On July 22, Hicks sadly died from her injuries. Reports now indicate Hicks was the mother of a 2-year-old girl.
Two other drivers and a passenger, who have not been identified, were taken to Gwinnet Medical Center. Their current medical conditions are not known. A fifth car was apparently involved, as well, sustaining minor burn damage. The driver of this vehicle was not injured.
Samuel was extracted from his vehicle and also transported to Gwinnett Medical Center with serious injuries. He has since been discharged and booked into the Gwinnett County Jail. He is now facing numerous criminal charges, including felony homicide by vehicle and driving under the influence. He has reportedly been denied bail.
