Man Charged for Causing Fatal Multi-Vehicle in Gwinnett County, Georgia

August 05, 2018

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA. – July 26, 2018 (gwinnettdailypost.com) An online story on gwinnettdailypost.com reports that a man has been criminally charged in connection with a fatal multi-vehicle accident that occurred in Gwinnett County, Georgia.*

31-year-old Tyquan Samuel, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, was driving a 2015 Audi southbound on Buford Drive/Highway 20 in Gwinnett County. Near The Circle (just south of Azalea Drive), Samuel reportedly “went left in an apparent loss of control and crossed the raised median” of the roadway.

Upon crossing the median, Samuel sideswiped a vehicle, causing the second vehicle to spin out. Samuel continued on and crashed into a third vehicle, driven by 23-year-old Sinee Hicks, of Lawrenceville. A fourth vehicle approaching the crash was unable to avoid another collision and struck Hicks’ vehicle on the passenger side. The impact of this collision then sent Hicks’ vehicle sliding toward Samuel’s Audi, which by that point, had ignited into flames.

Hicks was trapped inside her vehicle and suffered severe burn injuries because of the proximity to Samuel’s vehicle. Fire rescuers extracted Hicks from her vehicle, and she was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta in critical condition. Doctors indicated Hicks had no brain activity. Two days later, Hicks died from her injuries.

Two other drivers and a passenger, who have not been identified, were taken to Gwinnet Medical Center. Their current medical conditions are not known.

Samuel was also transported to Gwinnett Medical Center with serious injuries. He has since been discharged and booked into the Gwinnett County Jail. He is now facing charges of felony homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving, driving on the wrong side of the road, drag racing, failure to maintain a lane, simple battery-family violence, and possession of marijuana.
