Officers with the Cobb County Police Department say 18-year-old Alyssa Prindle, of Marietta, was riding in a silver 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe that was traveling northbound on Johnson Ferry Road July 5 in Marietta. The driver of the vehicle was 17-year-old Abigail Cook, of Marietta. Prindle was in the back seat and rolled down the back left window then hung out the window “yelling and screaming,” according to police. She ended up falling out of the window while the vehicle was still moving and hit the pavement.
Prindle was severely injured in the incident, suffering a fractured skull and fractured spine. She was reportedly unconscious at the time emergency responders arrived. Prindle was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital and was admitted to the intensive care unit. On July 26, officials indicated that Prindle had died of her injuries.
On the night of the incident, police took Cook, the driver, into custody, indicating that underage drinking was involved. Cook was booked into the Cobb County Jail and charged with underage driving under the influence, reckless driving, serious injury by vehicle, underage possession of alcohol, possession of false identification, and violation of a class D driver’s license hours restrictions.
In announcing the death of Prindle, Cobb County Police Department Sgt. Wayne Delk said officials had not yet made a determination about whether the charges against Cook would be amended in light of Prindle’s death. The investigation is ongoing, and no additional information has been released at this time.
