The Commission’s study indicated that several of the same types of circumstances tend to be involved during these crashes. According to the Commission’s findings, the following circumstances, among others, tend to lead to a higher risk of run-off-road crashes and fatal injuries in those crashes: driver fatigue, alcohol use, roadway alignment with curves, speed of the vehicle, speed limit on the road, adverse weather.
